Reporting Student Progress
Year Reviews
In the autumn term all teachers make a report to the Heads of Learning on the progress and attitude of each student. A meeting is held of all teachers to discuss the students (called a Year Review). If students receive a significant number of outstanding reports then the Head of Learning will inform parents of their success. Interventions may be made in order to encourage any students who are found to be under-achieving to do better. Parents/Guardians will be informed of these. Interventions could include:
An interview with the Head of Learning or the Head of PastoralBeing set a Learning Challenge to improve an aspect of their learning (equipment, punctuation, speaking, detail in work, presentation). This involves asking teachers to grade the student on how well they do each lesson in that aspect of their learning (eg writing detailed answers). Students who meet their challenge and improve are awarded a Gold Learning Challenge Medal.Being put on report card
Grade Cards, Reports & Parent’s Evenings
In the spring term parents/guardians will be informed of the progress and effort of students in years 7, 8, & 10 via a grade card which is sent home. Parents are invited to discuss these grades at parent’s evenings. Parent’s evenings run from 4.30 to 7pm. Parents/Guardians can attend at any time from 4.30pm without making timed appointments but students are asked to inform each teacher that parents wish to see them by collecting the teacher’s signature.
Years 9 and 11 will receive a full report in the spring term before their parent’s evenings. This is so that parents are informed of what students need to do to achieve good GCSE grades or Key Stage 3 levels. Parents will be informed of the final Key Stage 3 levels Year 9 students achieve via a grade card in the summer term. Year 11 GCSE results are given at GCSE results day in August.
Parents of Years 7, 8 and 10 will receive a full report detailing their child’s progress and effort and targets for the future in the summer term.
If it is evident from either grade cards or full reports that students are under-achieving then the Head of Learning will again make interventions to encourage the student to fulfil their potential.
