School's History

The School dates from 1688, when Archbishop William Sancroft, formerly Archbishop of Canterbury, granted to the Master and Fellows of Emmanuel College, Cambridge a sum of money, to be paid to a clergyman who should teach in Harleston.

The School’s present premises – incorporating teaching rooms, hall, gymnasium, dining-room, offices, large playing fields and extensive recreational space – were first occupied in 1964.  A swimming pool, technology and art accommodation, a fourth Science laboratory, a Performing Arts suite and new classroom block have since been added.  The School Swimming Pool has recently undergone further renovation.

Governors are particularly grateful to the Diocese of Norwich, which has contributed generously towards the cost of new accommodation, and to the County Council who have provided money towards refurbishment.
