Our School Governors
The Governors support the school in a number of ways..............
School Governors have overall responsibility for the school, for the education it provides for the students, for their well-being and progress and for the support of school staff, for the school buildings and environment and for the sound management of the school’s finances. They have an important role in supporting and promoting the school in the community, and in serving the school as a ‘critical friend’. Governors are all volunteers, and they represent a number of stakeholders in the local and wider community.
The school has 16 governors. Of these, Foundation Governors form the majority. As we are a Church of England Voluntary Aided School, these Governors represent the Bishop of Norwich, the Diocese and local churches. Others Governors represent the Local Authority, parents of students at the school and teaching and non-teaching staff. Each governor has one or more areas of responsibility, such as Health & Safety or students with particular educational needs, and serves on its formal committees and less formal working groups. We are fortunate in having a governing body with a wide range of skills and expertise, and they give their time and commitment freely to serving the whole school community.
The whole Governing Body meets twice a term to deal with the overall policies and the running of the school. Specific groups of Governors also meet from time to time to consider such varied matters as maintaining the school’s buildings, monitoring its specialist science college status, developing the role of parents in supporting learning and taking part in interviews for new staff.
