Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

Mr. R. Page  (Head of Modern Foreign Languages)

Miss. S. Picinic (Head of Learning KS3)

We use innovative, communicative teaching coupled with state-of-the-art technology to provide an enjoyable and expansive Curriculum,

At ASHS your child can study French until Year 9 when they may choose to study a language for their GCSE examination. In Key Stage 3 we use Metro 1, 2 and 3 textbooks and have introduced some project-based assessments following positive feedback from our stakeholders. We have two full-time members of staff and fully equipped classrooms with Interactive Whiteboards

In previous years Year 7 has visited Boulogne and Year 10 have a four day trip to Paris. We have also hosted a visit from a school in Marseilles and a French School in Frankfurt, and held a joint school trip to the Natural History Museum. In Key Stage 4 we study topics such as Media & Culture, Sport & Leisure, Travel & Tourism and Business, Work and Employment.

Should you require more in-depth details regarding the GCSE specification please go to www.edexcel.com and search GCSE in French. A GCSE in MFL is not only a passport to academic success, but also to success in the workplace. Employers will often look for the communication skills that are at the heart of language learning.

The English Baccalaureate also places an emphasis on a Modern Foreign Language and we encourage this as a springboard to further academic success.

These are exciting times for the modern linguist!
